Picture updates

Today I finally got round to downloading a bunch of pics off my camera from the last few months. I really do not take enough of them anymore... I used to take my camera EVERYWHERE with me, but it seems to have dwindled to the odd occasion now.

Anyway, here are some of the fun times we have had lately. A few weeks back we went up to my folks place in the country, and this little part of the world in spring time the wild flowers are spectacular.

The little monkey who doesn't seem to be able to keep a straight face for a photo anymore....

FINALLY summer has arrived in Cape Town.... well I may be a little late in reporting this, but with all the rain we had in Sep and early Oct it really did feel like winter would never end. Of course at the first appearance of that yellow ball in the sky that we had all but forgotten about it was time to head up to the dam.

Last weekend, on the spur of the moment (which is HIGHLY unusual for me as I normally like to have a little bit of order to the chaos that is my life) I decided to take the kids camping. We haven't done this is AGES, but there is a fantastic place about 2 hours drive from home where you can relax and do as little as you want and have decent ablutions facilities. Of course my first born (the water-baby) decided that even though the river was ICE COLD she wanted to spend all her time in it. I decided to brave it and very quickly changed my mind..... SHE IS MAD - IT WAS FREEZING.

Who could pass up waking up to this scene on your "door" step....

And then we get to HALLOWEEEEEEEEEEN...... I have never really been one for celebrating Halloween, it has never really been a big "thing" here is SA... but as we all become more and more globalised this tradition seems to be making it's was into the younger generation. Of course I was coerced into having a little "party" at home by the kids, complete with dress ups, pumpkin carving and late night "scary" movie.

And on that note.... HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

BLAST FROM THE PAST....

and then some

Well all.. finally I have made my return to the world of blogging. The last 16 months have been crazy, it feels like a lifetime, yet at the same time it doesn't seem that all that much has changed.
The kids are growing up very quickly and work... well work is work.

However TODAY I had one of THE MOST MEMORABLE days in a long time... I finally, after 15 years, tracked down and got in touch with my BF from junior school days. We were INSEPARABLE up to Std 1 (grade 3 for everyone else) at which time her parents moved to the other end of the country. We kept in touch via snail-mail for 7 years, seeing each other a few times in between, but then inexplicably lost contact. She was one of those people that just always stays with you, in your mind, in your heart... and for a couple of years now I have been trying to track her down via the wonderful world of the Internet. Today, out of the blue, another school mate from way back when let me know that they found her. She is finally on FACEBOOK - YEAH.

We were both so excited to make contact again - I felt like a kid all over and sat at work with a Cheshire Cat grin on my face for the rest of the day.

This experience today was exactly what I needed... been having a lot of those "how the hell did I end up here" moments lately. You know... 30, single, 2 kids, full time job and NO social life to speak of. hmmmmm

Okay - quick update on the last year

1 - I got back together with the EX.... obviously I didn't learn my lesson the first time round. Anyway, he promised he had changed and I (for some unknown reason) decided to give him another chance (about the 325th). It lasted about 8 months before I realised that NOTHING had changed. I can however now say without any doubt that I gave it my best shot. Let's hope I have learned my lesson this time.

2 - My BABY BROTHER IS GETTING MARRIED - about bloody time too, they have only been together for 7 years now. I am so over-the-moon-happy for them. The big day is early December

3 - My Darling Girl went on her first overseas holiday and WITHOUT me. Her Gran went over to Oz to visit my ex-sister-in-law and nephews and decided it would be nice to take her with. It was such a FANTASTIC experience for her that I know she will never forget.

4 - After 4 years of procrastination I am finally getting round to that much needed maintenance and renovations at the house. I have started getting quotes in (accompanied by a mini-heart-attack with each one).... nnaaaaaa it isn't THAT bad, I had expected it to come to a small fortune and so far it is well within my budget. Now just to get the bank to play nicely and the work can start.

I have a couple of other projects on the go... but best leave something for the next post, and I promise it won't be another 16 months.

HUGS AND SMOOCHY KISSES
